Project: The Light You Need
Year: Fall 2012-Spring 2013?
What is it: It is a hand held LED light that lights up about ~8 min when you pull the string once. The light up time is cumlative. It is based uses the utilizes the mechanics of a music box to store and a supercapactor, music box, and a gear system.
Story behind it: Me and my friend (Malex) were finding components from the lab trash and these are the components available.
Project: Electrical Data Logging System
Year: Fall 2012 - Spring 2013
What is it: EDLS measures the voltage, current and power real-time and able to detect of whatever being plugged into a socket. If anomaly is detected, it bees. You can also check out a demo I made in 2013. Noted, it was before I learn the American accent so my accent was heavy. (Click here)
Story behind it: First time learning about circuity & programming.
Project: Heat Reviver
Year: Spring 2013 - Spring 2014
What is it: It is a mobile metal can mounted with thermoelectric plates that converts heat to electricity. The original idea is to collect waste hate from incinerating trash or to burn Joss paper for our dead ancestors. For this system, we tried to maximize the hot-cold temp gradient, producing a table ~30W.
Story behind it: This is the project that brought me to Euorpe for science olympaid.
Project: Bacteria Nemesis
Year: Fall 2014 - Summer 2015
What is it: It is a box with a parallel plate of aluminum foil that generates 100kV/m of electric field using solar power or sources of low voltage. The idea is to create an electric field so strong that rips bacteria apart.
Story behind it: This is my first project after I immigrated to the U.S. I didn't continue this project further because I needed to go and study the SAT. Certainly this is biologically damaging, but perhaps for sterilization?
Project: Fog Clog - COVID 19
Year: Spring 2020 - Fall 2021
What is it: It is a strip that can be placed between your nose and mask to prevent your glasses from fogging up while also increasing breathing space. It is made with memory foam and is rewashable upto 5 times!
Story behind it: A 5 year gap to making individual project coz most of my time were spent on research. During COVID, my glass fog really bad from wearing masks so I called up Ken. We designed a solution & started selling.
Project: MasKO - Tomorrow's Mask
Year: Fall 2021 - Spring 2022
What is it: MasKO is an essembly based face mask that allows users to adjust the face mask performance based on the operation enviroment required - e.g. sound transmission , filtration requirement, and can be rapidly manufactured from 3D printing.
Story behind it: This project is somewhat of a continuation from Fog Clog. We tried a grant but was not awarded. We then got busy with our life/school and paused the project.
